Today’s post is a little different then what I usually chat about. I wanted to discuss something a little more personal.
What is your health legacy?
This is a post of why and what led me to the healthy journey and becoming a Holistic Nutritionist. My hope is that this helps others to make a change before a health emergency affects your life or the life of a loved one.
How It Started
I remember that day vividly as we all do when something significant happens in our lives. It was Feb 19, 2000. I was about 4 month pregnant with our first child, when that phone call happened. It was my mom calling to let me know that my Dad was in the hospital and had been diagnosed with colorectal cancer. They didn’t have all the particulars yet, but it wasn’t good. There had been signs for a while but my Dad ignored them until the symptoms could not be ignored any further.
Fast forward a few months, doing the allopathic medicine treatment, his cancer was in remission. Life went on with a few health recommendations to change but nothing significant. Eat more fiber, exercise, etc. Then 4 years later…
BAM! Cancer was back with a vengeance. So here was my question, WHY? And now what could we do to change this outcome, because now it really wasn’t good. And I now had 2 kids, and a family history of cancer. So I read, and I read some more until I was so full of information. Information that the doctors did not tell my Dad that may have helped change his health journey. And maybe it was strictly because they did not know or were not taught about it in school.
This hunger for information became my passion and I was going to do everything in my power to learn and teach my family so that we did not have to go down this road again. I knew that even if my Dad did want to make the necessary changes to his lifestyle that it was probably to late. But not too late for others to make the change. So I enrolled in a natural nutrition program and obtained my diploma in Natural Nutrition. My Dad passed while I was in school.
My Health Legacy
So what did I learn through all of this?
I learnt that, our body, given the right tools, can heal itself.
I learnt that we are all bio unique.
I learnt that healthy changes become habits over time and become your lifestyle.
I learnt that health is a combination of food, body and mind.
I learnt that our environment plays a huge part in our health.
I learnt that health is a journey and I learnt that even health intersects with reality.
My Hope
My hope is that I have given my children a strong base and that they have taken in some or at least a large percentage of the information. I know that they will not follow it all, right now. Because, well, REALITY. But that one day they will use and seek out more information.
My hope is that I can teach others that our bodies heal, given then right tools. Did you know that we put more effort into our vehicles, then we do to our bodies? Our body is our first vehicle. It might be a good time to start looking after that!
So let’s take a moment to think about what your health legacy will be.
If you are struggling to make those health changes, I am here to help. Send me a message.
Danni
My success is seeing you successful in your health journey and create your own health legacy.
I grew up in a home where nutrition was important. Variety and nutritional value were a priority and my Mom was always looking to learn more from professionals to keep it interesting and healthy for us. The power of nutrition has never been more apparent to me than today and I am grateful to have you to guide me in my insatiable (see what I did there?) quest to do the best I can for myself and my family! Keep it up, Danni!
