In my past life, I had a blog with a friend and it was about all things midlife - family, health, food, lifestyle and some of the best read content was when we would post a gift guide for holidays and celebrations. So I thought with the holidays coming up I would share a few things that I am loving right now, health and wellness edition. Maybe this will spark some gift ideas for others or even for yourself.
Here is what I am loving right now:
Hooga - Red Light Therapy
I talk about red light therapy and its benefits in a previous post
My Top 5 Trends for Biohacking in 2024
Red Light Therapy is a therapy using a non invasive, non chemical treatment of low wavelength red light to interact with your cells mitochondria. With more energy from the red light, cells can do their work more efficiently. These cells absorb the light wavelengths and are stimulated to work.

Tallow for Skin Care
I have been using tallow now exclusively as a face moisturizer for almost 2 years. I love how it feels (non greasy) on my skin and has helped clear up skin issues (redness and rosacea) that I was struggling with.
But will using tallow make me smell like meat? Read more about it Tallow: The Ancient Beauty Secret Making a Modern Comeback in Skincare
This has led me to using tallow for other personal care products such as deodorant, soap and even for makeup. I use Without Compromise for my facial needs, moisturizer and some makeup and I use Signature Touch for deodorant and soap.
Amino Acid Supplementation
Protein - the powerhouse of macronutrients. Why? Because it provides the basis of what our bodies need to repair, regenerate and grow muscles, hormones, bones, skin hair and tissues. Protein is the macronutrient that satisfies us - it makes us feel full and controls our blood sugar levels.
Proteins are a larger complex molecule made up of smaller units called amino acids. There are 20 amino acids ( 9 essential and 11 non-essential) that combine to make a protein. A complete protein must contain the 9 essential amino acids.
I use an amino acid supplementation just to help boost my amino acid/protein intake. This is something that I have been working on since turning 50 because protein is so important for healthy aging. I put it in my water before a workout or during busy stressful times for extra support. The important thing when sourcing out any supplement is to look for quality. And sometimes quality will cost you a bit more but it is so worth it. I love Kion for its quality and its benefits.
Castor Oil and Castor Oil Packs
I have a bottle of castor oil on my bathroom counter. I use it for extra moisturizer on my face and body and I also use a castor oil pack for liver and digestive support. The magic thing about castor oil is:
Castor oil’s chemical structure is a combination of linoleic acid (omega 6), oleic acid (omega 9) and ricinoleic acid (only found in castor oil). Ricinoleic acid is a versatile and easy manipulated oil because of its structure. Ricinoleic oil is a great carrier oil and has the ability to penetrate deep into the dermis (middle) layer of the skin.
You can read more about the benefits of castor oil in my post :
Gua Sha (pronounced gwa shaw)
A flat stone made from jade or rose quartz that is used for facial therapies creating healthier skin. In a light ‘face scraping, gentle gliding’ technique, using short strokes, you move cross your face in an outward direction promoting lymphatic flow.
This little tool stimulates circulation, helps promote collagen, decrease fine lines and wrinkles, decreases inflammation, diminishes dark circles and helps release tight facial muscles. (which I sometimes get as I can be a teeth clencher) It also provides a great neck massage.
I use mine 2-3 times a week after I moisturize at night with my tallow cream and a couple drops of castor oil.
** As a side note, I am recommending these items because I use and love them. I do not get any financial rewards for mentioning them.**
