Happy New Year to y’all and welcome to all my new subscribers who have joined this last month. I am so glad to have you here.
So lets get down to my first post of 2024.
Have You Heard the News?
It’s #WORLDCARNIVOREMONTH.
The Carnivore based diet has gained A LOT of notoriety and following of a huge segment of the population in recent years. Why? Mostly because of the positive effects that eating this way has had on health. There are many well known people who eat this way and endorse it. Although very controversial, the carnivore way of eating is the opposite of what the mainstream health experts have told us. We have been told that red meat causes cancer, high saturated fat intake causes heart disease, eggs are high in cholesterol. Yet these foods are abundant in more bioavailable essential amino acids, minerals and vitamins that are bodies require.
So What is the Carnivore Diet?
The Carnivore Diet is a diet of food based on how our ancestors ate. They were hunters / gatherers and ate what the earth provided. Plant foods were part of that regime and used in tight times but first and foremost animal foods were top on the list as it provided the highest amount of protein, fat and caloric intake. Back in early life, it may be multiple days before a human saw its next meal, so the food that provided the maximum benefit and energy to them was protein and fat, which came from the animal and was consumed from nose to tail.
In today’s world there are a few variations of the carnivore diet which people follow for their optimal health.
The Carnivore Diet and its other versions has been documented to help in weight loss as this diet works by putting your body into a state of ketosis, where it burns fat for fuel instead of carbohydrates. It has also been known to help with reducing inflammation in the body and therefore reversing autoimmune disease, helping to reverse depression and other mental health issues, reverse diabetes, repair skin issues and the list goes on.
The Carnivore Diet has really come to the forefront in the last few years when a well known podcaster, Joe Rogan had a guest on his podcast, Jordan Peterson - psychologist, author and media commentator. They discussed how Jordan went carnivore to help him with some serious medical issues he was having. He started this diet because he saw how much it help his daughter Mikayla with her medical issues and mental health.
But the OG of the carnivore diet is Dr. Shawn Baker and then more recently Dr. Paul Saladino. I strongly suggest following both these medical professionals for all their expertise and discussions on ongoing studies.
My Carnivore Challenge
Myself and my husband have decided to take this month’s challenge and go carnivore for 4 weeks. We officially started on January 5th. We will be following as closely as we can based on the ‘animal based’ carnivore style (meat, eggs, dairy, fruit, honey).
I will be giving a final update on the result here but feel free to follow along on my instagram - Back.2.basics.nutrition. Wish us luck!!
